1. Unfortunately, at this time we are unable to accommodate any language besides English. If this is a problem for you, contact one of the Admins and we will be happy to try and provide support.
2. Quality of posting will be important when it comes to the understanding of the RP and communicating the intent of your posts. Good grammar, spelling, and sentence structure are all important. We won’t be your AP English teacher about it, but request that you proofread everything before you post. NOTE: There is no minimum word count, since I think you can say valuable things with few words and it helps move the story along fairly quickly. Think about how best to convey your message and my personal advice is not to worry about length or adding filler.
3. You will have one account with your username. You are allowed to have multiple characters and they shall all be run through that one account.
4. Keep posts in third person (example: “England ran the bloody red light†is correct versus “I ran the bloody red light†which would not be correct). Since this is a multi-character forum, it’s important to clarify what character is doing what when. Additionally, because of the nature of this RP, I find third works better for plot based as opposed to character-based.
5. Have patience. When someone new joins, it can be hard to get into the swing of things. Online RPs are like online classes --- every teacher runs theirs in a slightly different way, with rules that sound the same as RP rules you’ve read a thousand times before. It can be hard to adjust and I ask that you not get angry or snippy with new people, simply politely guide them in the other direction. REMEMBER, the more people that join, the more fun.
6. Do not God Mode. This means two different yet equally important things --- don’t make your character all-powerful, and don’t control someone else’s characters. If you describe a character that is not yours doing an action, then that is God-Modding. Try to keep it fair guys. Writing is full of ups and downs for characters and plot, and it helps the flow of the RP to maintain that sway.
7. To keep the RP running smoothly, place any OOC discussion outside of the action with (( parenthesis )) to indicate the discussion. However, I also advise not to have conversations that are too extensive in-thread, these are probably more fit for the OOC area, the Plot Discussion thread, or a PM between players.
8. If there are more than two characters in a thread, please keep posting order in mind and respect that just to make sure that nobody gets shoved to the sidelines. If Character A posts first, Character B enters second, and Character C enters Third, their order would be A – B – C respectively. The only exception to this is if Character A asks a direct question to Character C, then Character C is free to respond before Character B posts.
9. Role play can take some unexpected turns. That is part of the appeal. If you are frustrated with things not going to plan, please express yourself (politely) in the OOC plot discussion forum or in a PM to the person you are playing with.
10. Okay, the part everyone wants to know about --- SEX AND VIOLENCE --- please, keep descriptions to a minimum. We want to keep the RP PG-13. Some innuendo is allowed as is some kissing and physical contact, but fade to black before the fun part. We get the point and detailed descriptions are not necessary. Some of the same goes for violence. Since this is Urban Fantasy, which has long crossed-paths with the horror genre, there will be slightly more allowances for violence. HOWEVER, as with sex, excessive descriptions are not needed. You can say ‘he was shot’ or ‘it was neatly beheaded’ gracefully without going into all the gory details. A lot of the impact is in how you describe it. If things get out of hand, an Admin may step in and request that you edit your posts.
11. Again, please keep cursing and name-calling to a minimum, while it is understandable that characters argue sometime, please be tuned in to the other players to make sure that an argument between characters doesn’t turn into an argument between players.
12. Please put the Day header in your threads to indicate the event’s place on the timeline. For instance a thread entitled “Dead Beat†would be taking place on day 1. It would look like this in the header “Dead Beat ((1))â€. This DOES NOT CORRESPOND TO REAL TIME, it is simply a way of keeping track of events in the RP for the timeline.
13. I want to encourage creativity in this game, and a huge part of Urban Fantasy is allowing people to include local destinations. Since it is infeasible to go recreate a city as complex as NYC in a forum setting, I have set up this forum to allow for people to include their own locations. BE RESPECTFUL. Be careful what locations you use. If I feel you are trolling or purposefully attempting to upset with the location you choose or how you use it, I will require that you edit the thread. Along the same lines, please do your research when including a location. It doesn’t have to be down to the last detail. The amount of information in a Wikipedia article or a travel book is sufficient, but I implore you to do some research.
14. Have fun!
